twice upon a time

I forget exactly how I first stumbled upon Kevin Fanning, back towards the end of high school — most likely some tangled mess of hyperlinks, McSweeney’s to Fireland, the abandoned-but-brilliant Knowledge for Thirst, finally ending up at the ragged red logo of whygodwhy — but he was one of several writers I followed that senior spring, when I still had the time to burn an entire afternoon on fiction. At least a half-dozen stories wound up bookmarked: dog-eared for future reference, then saved to my hard drive after Fiction Volante taught me how fast a good thing could disappear. But somehow I let him slip from my watchlist, as people always seem to do.
Luckily, I rediscovered the man a few days ago — again, I can’t remember how — and so I jumped on the opportunity to catch up on some of his latest stuff. Jennifer Love Hewitt Times Infinity is everything I’ve come to expect from kfan and everything I love about blog fiction: a bizarre mix of technology, mythology, and pop culture, all seamlessly woven into 500-word bites of microfiction. It was an absolute joy to read, and I highly recommend it…so go buy a copy! (Emmanuel, this means you.)
(Oh — and he’s on Tumblr, too, so go follow him here!)
