The Metro UI is probably my favorite thing to come out of Microsoft in the past five years. For a company so rooted in legacy systems and maintaining the status quo, it’s a breath of fresh air to see such a distinct break from previous iterations of Windows Mobile. (And of course, I’m a sucker for the typography-driven design, even if I worry that it interferes with usability in a few particular areas.)
According to early previews, there are still some loose ends to tie up before Windows Phone 7 ships in Q4, but I’m really hoping it shapes up as a viable competitor to other smart phones. As much as I love iOS, it’d be nice to actually cheer on Microsoft for once.
